Area Rug Fringe Cleaning

If your fine area rug has Fringe located on either end, when we clean your rug, we not only clean the foundation and fivers but we also perform oriental rug fringe cleaning. When looking at your rug, you might not think much more about it than how clean it does or does not look. What might surprise you, is how important these fiber strands are to the entirety of the rug itself! Woven rugs are created by applying dyed yarn to a base foundation. This base foundation is made of what are called Warps and Wefts. Warps are the tightly stretched fibers that the Wefts are woven through. The Warps are stretched vertically, while the Wefts are woven horizontally. This combination of woven fibers is essentially the most important part of the rug!

What is a Fringe?

Why are we explaining the Warps and Wefts of a rug, you might ask? Well, it is because the Fringe you see on your rug is actually the end of the Warps themselves! Well, not always but most hand-knotted rugs this is true. After a woven area rug has been completed, this end Fringe is knotted, effectively keeping the all so important base foundation safe, tight and secure! We know all too well the importance of the Fringe, so we have special procedures when performing our area rug fringe cleaning services. The fringe itself is a part of the rug as a whole, so it is washed, along with the rest of the rug during the full immersion washing process. If the rug has urine or odor issues, the fringe (along with the rest of the rug) will go through the full, proper treatment to rectify that particular situation. The big difference with the fringe, when it comes to our cleaning processes, is that the fringe will get its very own special treatment after the full immersion wash process has been completed.

Our Fringe Cleaning Process

Our specialty full immersion area rug cleaning near me process is specifically designed for treating natural fibers. While we also perform high quality cleaning services specifically meant for synthetic materials, the delicate nature of the natural fibers used to create these types of area rugs (wool, silk, cotton) require a particular type of treatment. This more involved and detailed method of treatment is carried from the wash floor to the fringe cleaning portion of the service. During the wash, the rug is immersed in cool, flowing water. This helps to flush the rug thoroughly and safely, causing no damage to the fibers whether they are natural or synthetic. Our Oriental rug cleaning specialists will then apply the proper solutions to the area rug, liberally. Specific solutions are used based on the results of the initial inspection. The type of solution used can vary based on the materials used to create the rug, the type of rug it is, the dyes within the rug, or even the age of the rug itself. The process itself varies slightly, as a more vigorous cleaning helps with synthetic materials, while a more delicate approach is required for natural fibers, whether hand woven or machine made. After the proper solution is applied, the fibers are all agitated, using a hand operated tool. This includes the fringes, as they benefit from agitation as well. A thorough agitation of the rug fibers helps to open them up, where the solution can grab the imbedded soil and the cool, flushing water can carry them away. Once the wash is complete, our centrifugal drying process helps in more ways than one! The easiest benefit to realize is the massively reduced dry time. Without a centrifugal drying process, rack drying can take days, which cannot only lead to an odor issue, but can cause issues with the fringe as well. When a rug is hung for too long, the dyes within the yarn can be pulled down through the kilm (the area between the rug pile and the fringe knots), into the fringe tassels. This is incredibly important, as it can change the color of your fringes, leaving the rug looking less than ideal. The centrifugal drying process eliminates this issue, as the rug is more than 95% dry once complete. This means the final hang time is very, very short, thus preventing dye transfer issues with your fringe!

Now, once that detailed full immersion rug and fringe washing service is complete, the technicians will perform the specialty fringe treatment. This treatment is similar to our standard wash process, but with some variations specifically meant to help provide amazing results with our oriental rug fringe cleaning service. Instead of flushing the area after the rug is about dry, we treat the fringe directly, using a method in which we suck the solution and added water out as we are applying it. This process is amazing in that it will typically yield instant results that look fantastic! You can feel free to check out some of our before and after photos of the fringes we service and see for yourself how effective a proper fringe treatment can really be!
